The Alliance of Wound Care Stakeholders is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated Membership Director to manage membership relationships, cultivate new members, and lead membership activities for the association. The Alliance is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit multidisciplinary trade association of medical specialty societies and clinical associations whose mission is to promote quality care and access to products and services for people with wounds. The Membership Director reports to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities and Duties

Recruitment: Grow Alliance membership by recruiting, developing, and onboarding new members.
  • Thoroughly understand the Alliance’s vision, goals, and target membership.
  • Develop and lead programs, initiatives, and policies designed to increase paid membership and membership renewals.
  • Source leads for prospective members and determine the decision makers for Alliance membership.
  • Research companies, organizations, individuals in each of the Alliance membership categories.
  • Research, select, establish, and manage a business development and member management database (CRM).
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and members of the Alliance team to develop succinct, compelling messaging for potential members.

Membership Management: Maintain a strong, engaged membership base in support of the Alliance’s mission and goals.
  • Build and manage excellent relationships with all current and former members of the Alliance, ensuring both the Membership Director and the Executive Director have deep connections to key contacts at member organizations.
  • Increase and maintain the Alliance’s membership retention rate.
  • Solicit, close, and gain sponsorship fees from members and other stakeholders for the Alliance Evidence Summit and other events that need sponsorship.
  • On an ongoing basis, identify opportunities for the Alliance to provide increased value to members and work with the Executive Director to implement changes.
  • Manage member communication, including writing emails, making calls, and setting up and leading meetings.
  • Work with Alliance communications staff to create consistent member content and provide compelling materials and messaging to each member.

Organizational Representation: Where relevant, represent the Alliance at meetings and events
  • Attend select wound care conferences to market to new members and cultivate relationships with current and past members.
  • Collaborate with senior staff to provide updates to the Board of Directors, Alliance members, and other stakeholders on scheduled calls and in meetings.

Additional Strategic Support: As needed, provide other strategic support to the Executive Director as she engages the Alliance board, members, and stakeholders.


  • Excitement for and commitment to the Alliance’s vision and goals
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Sales or marketing experience in the wound care field or equivalent experience as a membership director
  • Proven track record of selling and closing deals for high-dollar dues membership programs
  • Active knowledge of players in the wound care industry; established contacts with wound care companies’ senior management preferred
  • Superior communication skills (writing, speaking, and negotiation)
  • Skilled and proactive problem solver who is adept at bringing solutions to senior leader
  • High-level of proficiency using Microsoft products and virtual facilitation tools including Zoom and Microsoft Teams


The Alliance is based in Bethesda, MD, at the Executive Director’s home office. Due to COVID-19, the Membership Director will begin work in a virtual capacity and progress to hybrid work that includes working some days each week at the Bethesda office. The Membership Director can also expect to spend time in Washington, DC, as well as travel to different locations around the United States in support of the Alliance’s work and membership development objectives.


This is a full-time position with a base salary and commission. The role may be either contractor or salaried.
