Caroline Fife, MD, CWS, FUHM - Co-chair
Dr. Fife is the Chief Medical Officer of Intellicure, a Texas based software company which, since 2000 has provided a specialty specific electronic medical record system to wound and hyperbaric centers across the U.S. She is the Executive Director of the U.S. Wound Registry, a non-profit organization recognized by CMS as a Qualified Clinical Data Registry (QCDR) for PQRS reporting and the development of quality measures for wound care physicians. The USWR also provides data for comparative effectiveness studies in wound care and hyperbaric medicine. Dr. Fife is the Medical Director of the St. Luke's Wound Clinic in The Woodlands, Texas and a Professor of Geriatrics at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
Matthew G. Garoufalis, D.P.M. - Co-chair
Dr. Matthew Garoufalis currently works at the Chicago V.A. Health Care System and currently serves as the Vice-President of the International Federation of Podiatrists. He has been in the leadership of the American Podiatric Medical Association since 2003 and was its President from 2013-14 and on the Board of Trustees from 2003-2015. He has been given numerous honors and awards, has written over 25 articles, and served as lecturer in state and national podiatry association meetings.
John Capotorto, MD, MBA
Dr. Capotorto is a Harvard-trained, practicing Adult and Pediatric Endocrinologist and is a co-founder of RestorixHealth. Dr. Capotorto is a thought leader in the wound care and hyperbaric industry, and has served as President of the American Association of Wound Care Management (AAWCM). Dr. Capotorto received his MBA in Health Care Administration from the Zicklin School of Business and Mount Sinai School of Medicine where he graduated Beta Gamma Sigma. Despite his busy lecture and travel schedule, he maintains a small but busy general endocrine practice on Staten Island, New York. Over the years, he has been recognized with the JDRF Humanistic Award for his community service in caring for children with diabetes.
Kara Couch, FNP, CWS
Kara Couch is a Family Nurse Practitioner and Certified Wound Specialist and currently works in the Department of Rheumatology in the Wound Healing and Limb Preservation Center at George Washington University Hospital. She has been working in wound care since 2003. Kara has a special interest in amputees, surgical wounds and venous ulcers. She has been an active member of the guidelines committee for the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care and currently is the co-chair of the International Consolidated Venous Ulcer Guideline. Kara has authored or co-authored multiple peer reviewed articles and chapters on wound care. She also speaks nationally on wound care. For the past several years, she has been a clinician member of the Alliance for Wound Care Stakeholders.
Jule Crider has been serving as the Executive Director of the American Association of Wound Care Management since 2007. AAWCM is a non-profit association of wound care management organizations representing the interests of wound care clinics, patients, hospitals and manufacturers in public policy.
Karen Ravitz serves as the Health Care Policy Advisor for the Alliance of Wound Care Stakeholders (additional information is on Alliance website under "Executive Team")
